Letter: Be informed for election

Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler is walking a narrow path along the top of Trump’s great border wall, hiding behind the cowardly lions and tin men of the Republican Party and the National Rifle Association.

The timid follow-up to her impeachment vote, claiming to support the enforcement of law while trying to repeal Washington laws supporting police and citizen safety, is an insult to her constituents. She cloaks this with legitimate efforts to address fentanyl overdoses and women’s health issues, efforts which most Democrats support.

It’s highly likely that she will defeat Joe Kent in the August top-two primary and win reelection in November. The question for Democrats, independents and anyone seeking a better alternative is, will you pay some attention and make an informed vote?

A ballot in November where Jaime Herrera Beutler and Vicki Kraft or another Republican are the two candidates for the 3rd Congressional District would be a real tragedy. I hope The Columbian and other reality-based media will dig in and provide us with the information we need.
