Letter: Far right represents a danger

I agree with The Columbian’s statement that our outgoing congresswoman’s concession statement was gracious (“In Our View: Herrera Beutler graceful in face of defeat,” The Columbian, Aug. 11). Missing from her statement, however, was an apology to us who repeatedly warned her that the Republican Party was led by a Frankenstein monster, someone she continued enabling even after his defeat. Not until she was attacked by violent right-wing terrorists coming after her and her fellow legislators in the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, did she apparently recognize the monster who instigated that attack.

She is actually a pretty intelligent person, but also smug and self-enamored. Anyone remember her bragging that she got more votes in our congressional district than Donald Trump in her 2020 reelection? She utterly failed to understand that her base once saw her as one of them, a conservative Christian who viewed Trump as their great messiah in spite of his un-Christian character and actions.

Now washed up politically, she’s probably looking for a handout from a corporation that once funded her campaigns. I wonder if any of her supporters actually see the dangers we continue to face from the far-right terrorists in our country that now have one of their strongest supporters as the Republican nominee to replace her.
