Letter: Find way to ‘Defund Congress’

When he left the White House, Donald Trump improperly, perhaps illegally, took with him boxes upon boxes of sensitive, classified documents he was not entitled to have in his possession. As a result, the FBI raided his Florida home to retrieve these important records.

This could not have been done on a whim. The FBI would have needed high-level judicial approval for such a raid, and to get that would have had to show significant evidence that it was necessary.

Now, high-level members of the GOP are screaming for revenge: the same people who screamed loudly against the “Defund the police” movement are now screaming “Defund the FBI.”

The explanation for this is simple: To them, we are a nation of laws, except for Republicans, whom they consider to be above the law.

Here’s a thought: Let’s find a way to “Defund Congress” instead. After all, service to our nation is supposed to be an honor, not a cash cow. Take away their ability to give themselves huge pay raises, pay them only the current minimum wage while in office and prohibit all additional earnings during that time.

Then let’s see who will step up in service to our nation, when it doesn’t mean simply serving themselves.
