Firefighters extinguished a blaze Monday morning in an unoccupied garage that had been converted into a living space in Vancouver’s Fourth Plain Village neighborhood.

Vancouver fire crews responded at 3:10 a.m. to a structure fire at 3000 Drummond Ave. Crews arrived to find an approximately 600-square-foot detached garage on fire, according to a news release.

Crews also learned the garage had been converted into a living space with a sleeping area in the attic, the Vancouver Fire Department said.

Firefighters focused on extinguishing the fire near the sleeping area, which was accessed by a pull-down ladder. No one was found inside, according to the news release. There were no reported injuries.

Clark Public Utilities reported electricity was shut off to the property in October.

The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
