Investigators say a man shot and wounded his wife and baby before fatally shooting himself Wednesday afternoon at a home in North Salmon Creek.

Authorities have not yet identified the family. Both the woman and baby were taken to area hospitals for gunshot wounds; they were in critical condition, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Patrol deputies were dispatched at about 3:20 p.m. to a home in the 15000 block of Northwest Fourth Place for a reported disturbance with a weapon. Clark County Fire District 6 and AMR were dispatched a minute later for a stab/gunshot/penetrating trauma, emergency dispatch logs show.

The woman had called 911 to report her husband shot their infant, shot her and then shot himself. Arriving deputies entered the residence and found three people down on the floor from apparent gunshot wounds, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies provided medical aid until medics, who were staging nearby, entered the residence and took over, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspected shooter was pronounced dead at the scene. There is no ongoing threat to the neighborhood, sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Skidmore said.

The woman was unable to be interviewed due to her injuries, Skidmore said. She was intubated and taken into surgery shortly after arriving at the hospital.

There were no calls to that address over the last two years, Skidmore said, and it is unknown if there was a history of domestic violence.

The sheriff’s office Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate.
