Letter: Justice needed following riot

On Feb. 4, 2022, the Republican National Committee officially voted to declare the riot and insurrection at our nation’s Capitol “legitimate political discourse.” And so, one of America’s major political parties has now abandoned the position that we should be governed by a legitimate democracy and should replace it by the rule of the mob which can overturn elections at will by violence.

I used to respect the Republican Party as the loyal opposition. No more! How can I respect those who endorse people who were willing to build a gallows to hang their own vice president on the Capitol grounds?

The party must be classified as a traitorous un-American organization with no status to put up candidates for public office. And so, the House committee investigating this ugly incident must proceed and the people responsible for the riot must be brought to justice.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
