Letter: The credit Biden deserves

By Casey J. Heinrich, Washougal

John M. Crisp’s column “Biden deserves credit, support” (The Columbian, Feb. 3) managed to provide scant reason for anyone to provide either.

Decrying the criticism generated by even liberal luminaries such as Bill Maher, Mr. Crisp demands the president receive due credit or risk the collapse of democracy itself.

By all means then, let’s give credit where credit’s due:

  • Joe Biden presided over the humiliating withdrawal from Afghanistan, which featured humans falling from aircraft and 13 soldiers killed.
  • Vowing to “make them pay” for killing those soldiers, Biden’s administration murdered 10 innocent Afghans (including seven children and an aid worker) in a drone strike.
  • Biden will be credited with burdening generations of Americans with trillions of dollars in debt in a fiscal disaster that is an actual existential threat.
  • Biden also gets credit for further dividing the country by claiming his detractors are racists.
  • Biden gets credit for making the country much less safe as he projects incompetent weakness on the world stage.
  • Biden gets credit for perpetuating convoluted messaging with regard to COVID-19.

In the end, I agree with Mr. Crisp’s piece. It is time to give the president the credit he deserves.
