Letter: Explore local history

I once read how volunteering saved someone’s life. Indisputably, this is true for me.

Because of health concerns and losses, I quit work. I wondered what to do going forward. I then visited The Historic Trust. They offered me a position as a docent. Now I volunteer at both The Marshall House and The Academy. Honestly, it was one of the best decisions I made. Look up these places on thehistorictrust.org website. They aspire to inspire.

What materialized? Being a docent grounded me, encouraged me and excited me. I meet others from all over the world and increase my knowledge and love for history daily. Passionately, I tell them the amazing history of our area and the amazing people who lived here.

Admirably, Vancouver’s beloved historian Pat Jollota got it right: History is fascinating. It should not be forgotten. Come see me. Come volunteer with me. Not for a minute will you regret it.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
