A 27-year-old man was arrested Friday in Hazel Dell after allegedly firing shots inside an RV to solicit a law enforcement response.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies responded at 10:09 a.m. to the Vancouver RV Park, 7603 N.E. 13th Ave., after a 911 caller reported he was being threatened by an unknown person, according to an agency news release. Deputies said they determined the caller was Andrew Ziegler; he claimed the person who threatened him had left but said he had armed himself with a gun.

When deputies arrived, they heard multiple gunshots from inside the RV, the news release states. Ziegler eventually surrendered.

Deputies determined Ziegler did not intend to harm them when he fired the gunshots but instead hoped to solicit a police response, according to the sheriff’s office. No one was injured, and deputies could not substantiate Ziegler’s claims of being threatened.

Ziegler unlawfully took two guns from his father’s secured gun cabinet inside the RV, the sheriff’s office said.

He was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of aiming or discharging a firearm and two counts of theft of a firearm, according to the news release.

The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate.
