La Center, Ridgefield school districts’ replacement levies on Aug. 2 ballot

Ballots for the Aug. 2 special election, which features two crucial school funding measures in La Center and Ridgefield, will be mailed out today.

The La Center School District is asking voters to approve a three-year replacement levy to fund educational programs and operations expenses not fully funded by the state such as mental health resources, extracurricular activities and special education services.

The Ridgefield School District is also asking voters to approve a three-year replacement levy — a different measure than the facilities bond that Ridgefield ran twice this year. Like La Center, the proposed levy would fund programs and expenses not fully funded by the state such as mental health resources, extracurricular activities and special education services.

Each of the measures will cost local taxpayers $1.50 per $1,000 assessed property value and collections would begin in 2023 after the existing measures end at the end of this year.

Voters can expect to receive their ballots no later than July 21.
