A motorcyclist was seriously injured and the driver who allegedly hit him was arrested after a crash near Columbia River High School.

According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred just after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of Northwest 99th Street,  in front of the school.

Witnesses reported a red pickup truck was being driven in a reckless manner when it struck a motorcyclist. They also said the driver was attempting to flee the scene.

A preliminary investigation showed Brian Culbertson, 65, of Hazel Dell, had been riding his motorcycle westbound when he was struck by a red Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by Daniel Nienaber, 60, of Hazel Dell.

Nienaber was arrested a short distance from the scene of the collision. Both men were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Culbertson sustained serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

Nienaber was taken to the Clark County Jail and booked on suspicion of vehicular assault.

The collision is being investigated by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit.
