Raptors nearly battle back from two big deficits

The Raptors bats came alive late as Ridgefield nearly overcame deficits of 6-0 and 10-4 on Wednesday in Bend. Ridgefield scored three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth, but fell short in the second game of a three-game series.

KEY MOMENTS: Riley McCarthy put Ridgefield on the board with a bases-clearing double in the sixth inning, cutting Bend’s lead to 6-3. … Bend strung together four consecutive singles in a four-run third inning. … Trent Prokes and McCarthy each hit RBI singles with two outs in the ninth, allowing Ridgefield to put the potential tying run on first. McCarthy finished with five RBI.

KEY PLAYERS: Justin Trimble hit his third homer of the summer to lead off the seventh inning for Ridgefield. … Safea Mauai extended his hitting streak to 12 games. The Raptors first baseman went 2 for 5, upping his average to .364.

NEXT GAME: Ridgefield (23-14) at Bend (23-18), 6:35 p.m. Thursday.
