Letter: Guns are a problem

By Jim Armstrong, Vancouver

Let’s not kid ourselves that this was a mental health issue. The fact is that the shooter, nutcase or not, killed those kids not with a bayonet or an ax or even a baseball bat: he killed them with a gun. Guns are easy to transport, easy to use, and, alas, easy to obtain, and the Second Amendment notwithstanding, one has to ask why such military-style semi-automatic assault weapons are available to the public in the first place. I doubt that the amendment framers would have passed such a law had they known about such weapons.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
