Letter: Reduce your carbon footprint now

By Heidi Cody, Vancouver
Published: June 20, 2022, 6:00am

Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle, Vancouver City Council and city staff deserve congratulations for adopting our Climate Priority Resolution that sets a goal of 80 percent reduction in municipal operations greenhouse gas emissions by 2025, an 80 percent reduction of GHG emissions citywide by 2030, and carbon-neutrality citywide by 2040.

These aggressive targets are some of the most ambitious in the country, and will protect the health, safety and well-being of our community. It will take extraordinary effort to achieve these goals. Currently about 90 actions are suggested in the Draft Climate Action Plan.

Vancouver’s Climate Action Plan is expected to be adopted by the end of this summer. But why wait? You can reduce your carbon footprint now by driving less, flying less, conserving your energy use, and not watering your lawn.
