Letter: Work with tribes, preserve rights

Old men on the Supreme Court deemed a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body to be the state’s decision. Not her own. It is estimated that half the state legislatures will ban abortion, some even in the case of rape or incest.

It is time to negotiate with tribal governments across the country to open women’s health clinics on tribal lands. The political parties in this country have failed to respect the intelligence and dignity of American women. Even though the majority of Americans, in both parties, support a woman’s right to choose, too many state governments want to deny this choice.

Washington women are safe, for now. Washington might become a destination state for the procedure, but a local solution on a reservation would be a preferred option.
