Letter: Slow down to save on gas

By Bob Silverman, Vancouver

Want lower expenditures for gasoline? Slow down! It is common knowledge that one reflection of evaporating social norms is the general disregard of speed limits. What is not so understandable, given general complaints of rising fuel costs, are fast accelerations just before very evident upcoming red lights as well as departures from the same.

It is curious how the penchant for “freedom,” finding its way behind the wheel, is eating drivers’ pocketbooks and really affecting the prices we all pay, because gas costs reflect total fuel usage as well as availability.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
