Letter: Ask tough questions of candidates

By Robert Poole, Vancouver
Published: May 8, 2022, 6:00am

It appears that the Republican-controlled Supreme Court is ready to overthrow Roe v. Wade, which will result in new “Jane Crow” laws which will apply only to female citizens in over 20 states. Furthermore, if Republicans regain control of Congress and the White House in 2024, they will work quickly to pass laws to ban abortion nationwide. They are also getting into book banning, restricting access to voting, gay hatred, and airbrushing the teaching of our history of racism.

We should demand that every Republican running for any office answer this question: “Do you support Jane Crow laws that discriminate only against women?”

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
