Letter: Gun rights prevail over right to life

The anti-choice forces, terming themselves pro-life, favor denying the life of the mother in order to assure the life of a fetus or developing organism. The governor of Nebraska says if the court overturns Roe he will immediately move to require women impregnated by rape to carry the pregnancy to term. His will be an absolute ban on abortion. No exceptions.

Meanwhile slaughter in the streets of the United States via gun killings is epidemic, dwarfing any other country. There is considerable crossover between the “pro-life” forces and the pro-gun forces (see the voting records of the vast majority of elected Republicans at all levels of government). Yet any efforts to pass limited and common sense gun control to stop the carnage across the country, and to save lives (lives everyone agrees are already fully birthed and formed adults and children) are met with absolutist refusals to do anything to prevent all these innocent human deaths. In this case, gun rights prevail over the “right to life.” Can anyone provide a rational explanation/justification for these contradictory if not diametrically opposed positions for me?
