Letter: Shame on county council

Shame on the Clark County Council! Adopting redistricting map C2 is an appalling disregard for the will of their constituents. Flying in the face of all the negative comments they heard at the public hearing regarding map C2, they gladly voted to adopt a map that was created and rejected by the Republican facet of the redistricting committee months ago.

Why didn’t they (Medvigy, Bowerman) vote to approve the staff-created and public-approved A2 map from April 19? What makes C2 better than A2 in their eyes? My guess is it might have something to do with where the councilors reside in relation to map C2 versus A2.

While everyone agrees that this process has been a disaster from the start, the council could have chosen to make something good come from it by allowing the staff-created map, A2, to be adopted. Councilor Temple Lentz pressed for this outcome relentlessly, and her integrity was on display for all to see. The same cannot be said of the other councilors (Medvigy, Bowerman, Rylander) who voted against the people and for themselves.

It will be a long time before we can modify this map. The current councilors will be long gone. And they chose to benefit themselves and ignore the people. Shame on them!
