Letter: Should wind turbines be painted?

I was sitting at a stoplight the other day and a truck hauling a wind turbine blade crossed in front of me. In fact, it was so long it took two light cycles to go by.

There is much concern, including me, about birds dying in the blades of wind turbines. As it was passing I realized it was an off-white color and blended into the surroundings.

I wonder if they were painted a color birds fear or if they would have swirls painted on them or some real scary identifying look, if birds would see them in time to avoid them? Sometimes the simplest idea is a solution.

Who would know the answer to this?
