The community is led to believe that hospitals care about frontline health care workers and that we are treated like heroes. Many news articles claim that “PeaceHealth is the healthiest place to work.” What if I told you that this couldn’t be further from the truth?
The caregivers at PeaceHealth Southwest are currently experiencing incredible stress as managers retaliate, intimidate, and push many of our staff to quit. We lack a sustainable work-life balance and we lack the basic appreciation for the patient care we provide. This has led to massive turnover rates and is increasing wait times in the ER and across our facilities.
We decided to make the PeaceHealth CEO, Sean Gregory, aware of the workplace bullying and unbearable working conditions. We delivered a “vote of no confidence” with a full 80 percent of the patient access representatives showing their disdain. His response was to ignore our concerns and allow the mistreatment to continue. When they say that PeaceHealth is the healthiest place to work, they certainly have never asked the staff who work there, most of whom would tell a different story.
