Letter: Buses preferable to light rail

According to The Columbian, there is a new definition of quick, and affordable (“The rail world: MAX offers cheap, quick commute for Clark County, Portland residents,” The Columbian, Nov. 13).

According to TriMet schedules it takes 25 minutes to get from Delta Park to downtown Portland. Depending on how Clark County residents choose to arrive at Delta Park or the Expo Center (the only stations with parking) will depend on total commute time, but most likely 10 to 15 minutes more.

C-Tran bus takes 30 minutes to travel from Salmon Creek to downtown Portland with plenty of parking for Clark County residents at Salmon Creek and 99th street.

With the cold, I’m just waiting for the MAX to ice over and not be usable for a few days. Remember, the MAX and ice or snow don’t mix.

Based on published schedules, buses are 1) faster 2) more reliable 3) less expensive 4) flexible and 5) electric buses are just as environmentally sustainable as the MAX.

Clark County residents simply can’t rely on or afford the MAX.
