Letter: Sore losers threaten democracy

By Richard Saunders, Vancouver
Published: November 27, 2022, 6:00am

Now that the midterm elections are over, and after dozens of court challenges and audits over two years found only minor issues nationwide, maybe it is time to retire that self-serving term “election denier” and replace it with one familiar to all of us from our grade school playground days: poor losers, bad sports, or maybe just crybabies.

In a well-functioning democracy, the losing side in an election reviews their platform and the quality of their candidates with the hope of attracting more votes in the next election. That is how we have kept our republic for over 240 years.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
