Letter: Remake health care system

I am not yet old enough for Medicare (although it looms on the horizon) but the barrage of Medicare ads on television is enough to make me ill. “I call every year to see if my doctor is on my plan.” “I call every year to see if I qualify for a plan that gives money back to my Social Security check.” Ad nauseam. Every time I say back to the television: “You shouldn’t have to do that every year!” but then realize how Byzantine health care coverage is for those in their third phase of life.

It is ads like this that make me look to our northern neighbor (Canada) and wonder why we do not just copy their system, scaling it of course. Of course the Trumpians will scream “socialism” and “taxes” and other such lines of protest, but to mollify them we could create opt-outs for those who want to buy their own health care.

In any case, I have discovered the “mute” button on the remote control works well and is easy to access. I have also made use of the “source” button and playing my Playstation more often too. So the ads are not as effective for me.
