Plane makes emergency landing in Ridgefield pasture; no injuries

No one was injured Thursday afternoon when a small plane made an emergency landing in a field in Ridgefield.

Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue was dispatched at 2:31 p.m. to an aircraft emergency in the area of 30000 N.W. 31st Ave. The 911 caller said, “A plane just crashed in field to the south of here,” according to an agency news release.

Battalion Chief 21 arrived within five minutes and reported that a small, “Cessna-type” plane was in the field with moderate damage. Engine 23 contacted the pilot, the plane’s sole occupant, standing outside the aircraft, the fire department said. The pilot said he was uninjured.

The pilot said the plane’s landing gear was damaged when it struck a hole in the field. Engine 23 helped the pilot plug a small fuel leak, the news release states.

Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue was assisted by American Medical Response and the Ridgefield Police Department.

Two fire engines, one ladder truck, one chief officer, one public information officer, one ambulance and two Ridgefield police officers responded, for a total of 14 personnel.

The incident is under investigation by the regulatory agency.
