Letter: Benton runs on smoke and mirrors

I had to smile when I saw Don Benton’s sign. As I recall:

1. Benton was hired by political cronies for an environmental director position that he wasn’t qualified for.

2. He was fired.

3. He sued and won a settlement on a technicality.

4. He received a political appointment to direct a mothballed federal program where, apparently, he did no harm.

Now he’s back attempting to drink from the public well again. I give it to him that he has name recognition and a catchphrase. Based on his recent history, I see no evidence that he fights for anyone but himself.

Just once, I wish he would run on his qualifications and not smoke and mirrors.
