“No man is above the law”?
How can the legal pundits keep singing this refrain of a cliché while keeping a straight face? Coming from a lawyer-heavy background (both a brother and father were attorneys), I was indoctrinated in this principle of jurisprudence along with other lesser-known ones … every dog has his day in court. And one of my dad’s favorites: if someone has to go to jail, make sure it’s your client and not you.
Given the current state of affairs, it appears there is one U.S. citizen who is above the law. Not only has this individual admitted to the crimes he is suspected of committing, he continues to carry them out to this day without legal jeopardy.
What a disgraceful message this is sending to the rest of the country and the world; a pandering, unprincipled attorney general condoning this behavior by paralysis.
Please, politicians and legal pundits, stop telling us that no one is above the law as it is patently no longer true. A two-tiered legal system represents the breaking of one of the three pillars of our democracy.
And stop reminding us how our representatives are able to walk and chew gum at the same time; has anyone actually witnessed this?
