Elementary

Love Street Playhouse, 126 Loves Ave., Woodland, presents “Miss Holmes” with performances at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22 and 2 p.m. matinees Oct. 16 and 23. The play explores the Victorian world of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson by imagining the added obstacles they would face if they were female. When an anonymous note sends a newlywed wife looking for help, Miss Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Dorothy Watson work to uncover secrets about a corrupt police inspector. Get a clue

Magenta Theater presents “Murder on the Orient Express” Friday through Oct. 30 at 1108 Main St., Vancouver. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Hercule Poirot, the world’s greatest detective, must interrupt his holiday to solve a fiendishly intricate and clever murder plot aboard a train stalled in the snow — before the snow is cleared and the train moves on. A performance featuring understudies will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27. Tickets are $20 in advance or $22 at the door. A concert of note

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra invites audiences to hear nine young musicians who will compete in the final round of the National Young Artist Competition at 1 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 4300 Main St., Vancouver. Admission is free. Open to young artists up to age 18, the Young Artist Competition awards $24,000 in cash prizes and gives winners in the categories of piano, strings and brass/woodwinds the opportunity to perform with the orchestra on Jan. 21 and 22. The competition will be livestreamed at vancouversymphony.org.

Wind under your wings

The Southwest Washington Wind Symphony welcomes in-person audiences with a concert titled “Magical Moments” 3-4:30 p.m. Sunday in the Performing Arts Center at Union High School, 6201 N.W. Friberg-Strunk St., Camas. Admission is free. The program includes “The Klaxon” by Henry Fillmore, “Magnolia Star” by Steve Danyew and “Cajun Folk Songs II” by Frank Ticheli. Before the War

Re-Imagined Radio celebrates the 84th anniversary of “War of the Worlds” by focusing on the stories that led to its creation. “The War of the Worlds: Possible Influences” premieres at 1 p.m. Oct. 17 on KXRW-FM, Vancouver, and KXRY-FM, Portland. The stories are “The Fall of the City” and “Air Raid” by Pulitzer Prize-winner Archibald MacLeish; “The Crimson Wizard” aired by WGN, Chicago; “The Minister Is Murdered” by Erich Ebermeyer; and “Broadcasting the Barricades” by Ronald Arbuthnott Knox, aired by the BBC. Re-Imagined Radio broadcasts new episodes on the third Monday of the month and old episodes every Sunday on KXRW. Shows can also be streamed at www.reimaginedradio.net.
