Letter: Strive for equality, acceptance

From the perspective of an Ahmadi Muslim, the heinous actions committed by the Iranian police against Ms. Amini are completely and categorically condemnable. While Islam prescribes a head scarf, it in no way, shape or form entitles an external force to commit such a despicable punishment against women who choose not to cover themselves.

From Iran to France, women are deprived of the agency to establish their own choice in the way they dress in relation to their faith. It is not anyone’s responsibility to forcibly wrap or remove the scarf from women; rather, it is our responsibility to strive for true equality and acceptance.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
