Letter: Vote to maintain our freedom

By Susan Silvera, Vancouver

I know that most of us are greatly concerned about inflation, and other issues caused by supply chains and/or company greed (depending on who you talk to). Please don’t think that voting anyone out will fix a basic economic problem. It is not, at heart, the Dems or GOP causing it (although a case can be made that if the previous president had addressed COVID sooner, the supply chain issues would not be so great).

What we all need is to look at what is happening where the GOP have taken over control of states. They have restricted basic health care, actually taking away hard-earned rights to control our own bodies, restricted what can be found in libraries, restricted voting rights, censored actual history in schools, and generally have successfully imposed a form of Christianity that is highly restrictive, and not everyone’s religion, even that of good Christians.

Please consider this before you vote, or, worse yet, don’t vote. If we want to maintain our freedom, we need to vote to keep it.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
