There is a lesson to be learned from the huge drop in English and math test scores caused by the pandemic that no one seems to have noted. The drop is proof of the effectiveness of the hardworking and under-appreciated in-classroom teachers in public education. It also disproves the claims of some political groups that have advocated reduced support for public education. It proves that strong funding for public education is the best way to reverse the downfall in learning that resulted from the pandemic. And finally, it makes clear the necessity in the coming election of voting for candidates who strongly support public education. Our children’s futures depend on it.
