Lynn Brown (Our Readers’ Views, Aug. 26) asserts there is no sane reason for AR-15 rifles, high-capacity magazines, stating that is the reason death counts were high in shootings. Brown cites Republicans, manufacturers, NRA and gun-loving voters as culpable parties. Brown forgave Republican Liz Cheney because Cheney earned martyrdom as a Trump hater.
Sunday a “mass” shooting happened in Bend, Ore. A store customer killed, an employee confronting the shooter killed; shooter killed himself. Of note the fact reporters said an AR-15 rifle was used, the shooter also brought a shotgun.
Why no word on the type of shotgun? Shotguns are made as semi-automatics and capable of legal high-capacity magazines. Rifles, handguns, shotguns have been made for decades as semi-automatics with high-capacity magazines. In 1961, I was gifted a semi-automatic rifle, 15-round magazine. Sixty years, thousands of rounds fired, but I’ve not committed a mass shooting. The guns aren’t the problem.
