The Washington State Department of Commerce has announced $20.8 million in new grants to 81 nonprofits that provide some of the state’s most vulnerable people with permanent housing units and services.

Funding will be used for operations and maintenance of 3,135 permanent housing units statewide, along with supportive services essential for people with disabilities.

Clark County will receive six grants totaling $1,818,483 to support 271 permanent housing units.

Permanent supportive housing is subsidized, leased housing with no limit on the length of stay that prioritizes people who need comprehensive support services to stay housed.

Columbia Housing Non-Profit, a subsidiary of Vancouver Housing Authority, will receive $145,638 for Rhododendron Place, a 30-unit affordable housing project for people exiting homelessness in Hazel Dell.

Housing Initiative, LLC., a subsidiary of Council for the Homeless, will receive three grants totaling $884,612. The grants will support three affordable housing projects in Vancouver that provide a total of 110 permanent housing units: The Elwood, The Meridian and The Pacific.

Vancouver Housing Authority will receive two grants totaling $788,233. The grants will support Central Park Place and Tenny Creek, two developments that provide a total of 136 permanent housing units.

The grants provide gap funding to providers between what is received in rent assistance from the individuals residing in the units and the maintenance and operations costs of the building.
