Are we looking at some cooler weather this weekend? Check out out local weather forecast before you head outside.

Here are some of the stories that were popular this week with Columbian readers:

Watching the woods: Volunteers track down wildlife cameras hidden in Gifford Pinchot forest

RANDLE — For three years, dozens of camouflaged cameras staked out remote corners of this rugged forest, waiting for its inhabitants to wander into view.

When they did, the motion-detecting cameras started rapidly snapping — taking three photos every five seconds — and kept on snapping until the visitor moved away again. Then the cameras went still, waiting for more activity to capture.

Vancouver’s Pied Piper Pizza permanently closes its doors

The legend that is Vancouver’s Pied Piper Pizza came to an end in August, as the restaurant’s owners closed its doors Aug. 8.

Austin and Devyn Slagle acquired the store in February of this year.

Woman kidnapped in Vancouver, jumps out of moving car to escape, according to sheriff

A woman was kidnapped in central Vancouver and managed to escape by jumping out of a moving vehicle in the Camas area in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to a statement from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. A suspect has been taken into custody.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded about 4:30 a.m. to the 24000 block of Northeast 28th Street near Camas for a trespassing report. The caller said a woman was banging on the door saying that she had jumped from a moving vehicle after being kidnapped in Vancouver. Deputies found a woman in the front yard of the home, clearly in distress.

Camas Station project moves forward

An independent hearings examiner has cleared the way for Camas Station, a gas station-car wash-retail complex, to be developed at the corner of Northwest Brady Road and Northwest 16th Avenue in Camas’ Prune Hill neighborhood.

Hearings Examiner Joe Turner issued his decision on Aug. 25, more than four weeks after dozens of Camas residents and Prune Hill Elementary School parents turned out to a public hearings examiner meeting to oppose the project, citing concerns about increased traffic on a busy road that connects residential neighborhoods to a park and elementary school, as well as the gas station’s potential release of harmful, airborne chemicals like benzene.
