Letter: Supreme Court is flawed

In the wake of the United States Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, lots of Americans are questioning the integrity and impartiality of the court. What took so long?

The Supreme Court is far, far from an impartial font of wisdom. In 1857, in the Dred Scott decision, the court ruled that slaves were property, not citizens. In 1896, the court ruled that “separate but equal” accommodations for Black and white people were OK, a decision that wasn’t overturned until 1954. In 1944, the court ruled that it was OK to arrest and detain loyal Japanese Americans in concentration camps.

Nine flawed and often biased people, appointed, never elected, hold the fate of millions in their hands. What were the Founding Fathers thinking?
