Letter: Paint on trails is a bad idea

By Jeff Holm, Vancouver

Local schools use trails for cross country practice and possibly races. In the past, they have used wire flags to mark the route. Recently, someone painted guidelines along the trail and arrows on tree trunks to mark the route. I assume that this is in lieu of the flags, as it follows the same path.

This is unacceptable, especially if it was condoned and/or done by school staff. This vandalism for the sake of a few minutes of running will impact these trails for years, as this appears to be permanent paint. Graffiti in a forest preserve is no less a crime than graffiti on a highway overpass.
