Letter: Legislature doesn’t help with rent

By James Lindner, VANCOUVER

Once again our politicians think of us as fools. They’re supposed to be addressing out-of-control rents. But do they? Bait and switch. Let’s build more apartments. Does this address the problem? No! It does nothing for the public. Instead who benefits? The people who are allowed to charge those out-of-control rents. They will tell you that this is for low-income housing. And what do they think that is? $1,200 to $1,500 per month. And don’t forget first and last month’s rent. That will get you in the door. Then they’re allowed to raise the rent as they see fit.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
