Letter: Clean up homeless problem

By Joe Blatner Sr., VANCOUVER

Just look across the river to see what is happening. Here developers have spent millions to fix our waterfront, yet our so-called city officials are turning a blind eye to the homeless problem downtown. Broken windows, trash thrown around, stealing.

People like Runyan Jewelers shouldn’t have to look out their windows and see tents and garbage. Once a tent goes up, it should be removed immediately, for there are many more to follow.

This is public and/or private land, and thus if they don’t want to go where the city has designated for the homeless, then I say “tough,” either go by the rules or leave.

It won’t be long before businesses and residents leave.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
