Letter: Guns are threat to public safety

Recently The Columbian has twice quoted Senate Republican Leader John Braun regarding his comments on police pursuit reform: “I am disappointed that certain legislators, through their own hubris, posed such an enormous barrier to improving public safety.” These words will continue to ring very hollow until Republicans support sensible gun regulation.

The amount of gun violence affecting the public is a national scourge and a daily threat to public safety. So I would ask Sen. Braun and the majority of other Republican politicians, “Why are you posing such an enormous barrier to improving public safety by refusing to support sensible gun laws?”

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
