Letter: Climate action is needed now

Climate change is a fact. It is already serious and rapidly getting worse.

The harm from climate change is already great: We see it in the wave of climate refugees coming from Central America and South Sudan. We feel it in the heat waves in Texas and Uttar Pradesh. We smell it in the smoke from Canada and Greece.

Some people say that we should not act because gas prices will be higher, or the economic situation is not right yet. But there are solutions that address these problems. The Inflation Reduction Act is already passed and helps Americans afford the transition. In the future, we can get a U.S. carbon fee and dividend passed. A carbon fee and dividend would charge companies for carbon emissions and return 100 percent of the money directly to Americans.

The websites of Citizens Climate Lobby (https://citizensclimatelobby.org/), Third Act (https://thirdact.org/) and many other organizations make it easy to learn more and take action.

So, what do you propose? Delay? Argument? Indecision? Or taking action?
