Jungkook and Jason Aldean have skyrocketed to the top of the Billboard charts.
The BTS singer has scored his first solo hit with “Seven” (featuring Latto), which debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100. Meanwhile, the polarizing country crooner’s “Try That in a Small Town” comes in the second position, becoming a hit amid controversy surrounding the release of a racially charged music video.
Jungkook is the second solo BTS member to hit the top spot on the pop charts. Three months ago, Jimin’s “Like Crazy” landed at No. 1, making him the first Korean solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100. Together, BTS — made up of J-Hope, Jimin, Jin, Jungkook, RM, Suga and V — has six No. 1 songs under their belt, including “Dynamite” and “Butter.”
According to Luminate, which tracks data for Billboard, Jungkook’s sexually charged “Seven” sold 153,000 copies, registered 21.9 million streams and accumulated 6.4 million airplay impressions.
Aldean’s song, which was released May 22, has surged exponentially since CMT announced last week that it pulled the video for “Try That in a Small Town” for showing footage of police brutality protests, rallies and riots. In the video, the five-time Grammy nominee also sings in front of the Maury County Courthouse in Tennessee, which was reportedly the site of a 1927 lynching of a Black teenager, and a 1946 race riot.
