George F. Will flirted with rational argument when he joined the never-Trump campaign. But in other areas, he continues to spout irrational Republican propaganda.
In Monday’s column, he continues the Republican campaign against Social Security and Medicare, which he says are the main villains causing our budget deficits. There is no mention in his article of the real reasons for our current budget deficits. They are the tax cuts for corporations and the super-wealthy by George W. Bush and Donald Trump. These have allowed our billionaires to compete against each other in space travel joy rides while we are the only wealthy country in which a large part of its population gets insufficient food and the only one in which people are made bankrupt because of medical bills.
Will quotes a study by Romina Boccia of The Cato Institute that proposes a commission to deal with the deficit problem. The Cato Institute is a shill for the Republican Party, which colors all the studies they publish. Fortunately, there is little support among Americans for cuts in Social Security or Medicare, even among Republican voters. Bill Clinton showed us the way to bring the deficit to zero by returning tax rates for the wealthy back to historical levels.
