Letter: Improve conditions for rabbits

By June Yamrick ,VANCOUVER

The senior female rabbit sitting in the cage looks as if she is trying to get comfortable, one wonders. Rabbits have a lot of energy and being kept in a cage smaller than a full-sized newspaper is not fair to the animal. They cannot rest on wire bottom cages, and it is known to cause sore hocks and calluses. The possibility of infection in their feet is great. The wire cage was invented due to human inability to clean the rabbit’s cage regularly. In no situation is there anything in nature that matches a wire bottom cage.
