Vancouver triathlete Joshua Monda had a successful showing at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships on Sunday in Lahti, Finland.

Monda placed second in the Men’s 40-44 age division and 116th overall. He covered the half-ironman distance in 4 hours, 6 minutes and 9 seconds.

Monda finished his 1.2 mile swim in 29:07, his 56 mile bike in 2:10:57 and his 13.1 mile run in 1:19.18.

Monda has established himself as one of the top amateur triathletes in the country. He opened this season in April by finishing first among nearly 2,400 amateurs at the Ironman 70.3 Oceanside near San Deigo.

In June, Monda was the top amateur for a second consecutive year at the Ironman 70.3 Oregon, placing 21st in a personal-best time of 3:52.30.

In 2021, Monda placed 10th nationally in the United States Triathlon Association rankings among amateurs in the men’s 35-39 age group.
