While Vancouver’s waterfront development is amazing, attractive and active, it feels saturated with residential buildings and a few office/commercial buildings. The proposed development of yet another housing project on Block 1 is evidence. Here’s a novel thought for the Port of Vancouver and the city of Vancouver to consider: How about the one big feature that is lacking in Washington’s fourth-largest city, a performing arts center?
Employers, current and prospective, “sell” their vacant jobs to prospective employees with the appeal of good schools, cost of housing, tax structure, and amenities such as culture (think performing arts center) and wholesome family-oriented activities, of which we have an abundance.
The shortsightedness of existing leadership is disheartening. The performing arts are abundant in Southwest Washington and are deserving of the attention and support of more than private-sector efforts, not to mention the economic generator they provide.
