Prep Roundup: Morningstar scores 28 as Prairie boys beat Mountain View

Carson Morningstar scored 28 points to lead Prairie over Mountain View 57-49 in the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League boys basketball opener for both teams on Tuesday.

Morningstar, a 6-foot-6 sophomore post, scored 19 points in the first half, which ended with the teams tied at 26.

Prairie (2-1) led 39-35 after three quarters as Soloman Ogbeama scored five of his nine points in that quarter.

Prairie had a big advantage at the free-throw line, shooting 14 for 25 while host Mountain View went 1 for 4.

Tre’Von Hughes-Farmer scored 20 points to lead Mountain View (1-2). Daniel Dolev added 11 points, making three 3-pointers.

COLUMBIA RIVER 78, WOODLAND 38 — Aaron Hoey scored 24 points and hit four of the Rapids’ 10 3-pointers in a 2A GSHL road win.

Hoey scored 12 points in the first quarter as Columbia River (2-1, 1-0) jumped to a 25-16 lead.

Ari Richardson added 18 points and Nico Valdez scored 10 points for the Rapids.

Sam Jeschke scored nine points to lead Woodland (1-1, 0-1).

MARK MORRIS 79, HUDSON’S BAY 29 — The Monarchs picked up their first win of the season by opening 2A GSHL play with a convincing victory over visiting Hudson’s Bay.

Braydon Olson scored 26 points and Dalton Stevens had 19 to lead Mark Morris (1-2).

Bay, playing its first game of the season, was led in scoring by Lincoln Goode’s eight points.

RIDGEFIELD 77, FORT VANCOUVER 48 — Jack Hughes and Jamison McCann combined for 43 points as the Spudders won the 2A GSHL opener at Fort Vancouver.

Hughes led all scorers with 24 points, and McCann scored 11 of his 19 in the fourth quarter for Ridgefield (2-0).

Fort (1-1) was led in scoring by Isaiah Gonzalez with nine points.

Girls basketball

UNION 65, KELSO 33 — Ava Smith scored 22 points and the Titans clamped down on defense for a non-league home win.

Brooklynn Haywood scored 17 points and Rowyn Riley added 15 points as Union improved to 3-0.

The Titans allowed just two points in the second quarter to lead 32-11 at halftime.

Peyton Champagne scored 11 points to lead Kelso (0-3).

SETON CATHOLIC 52, EVERGREEN 33 — Riley Seymer scored 27 points as the Cougars improved to 2-1 with a non-league road win.

Seymer scored 17 points in the first half, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer, to give Seton Catholic a 29-17 lead.

Madison Lee added 11 points and made three of Seton’s six 3-pointers.

Adrian Wright and Kimora Ross each scored nine points for Evergreen (2-2).

BATTLE GROUND 37, HERITAGE 33 — Ava Robertson scored 12 points as the Tigers held on for a non-league road win.

Battle Ground (1-2) recovered from a slow first quarter, scoring 14 points in the second to lead 18-17 at halftime.

Braidee Goodwin scored 11 points to lead Heritage (0-3). The Timberwolves were held back by cold free-throw shooting, going 8 for 23.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 58, PRAIRIE — The Thunder made 11 3-pointers on their way to 2-0 in the 3A Greater St. Helens League.

Jadlyn Senderson scored 13 points with four 3’s to lead three Mountain View players in double figures.

Mylee Thompson added 11 points, and Sophia Wright scored 10.

Prairie (0-3 overall, 0-1 3A GSHL) was led by Harmony Fallin’s 13 points.
