A student at Shahala Middle School was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly threatening another student with a knife in a portable classroom outside the main school building.

The school was placed into lockdown at 1:03 p.m. Security staff responded and waited for law enforcement to arrive on scene, according to a message to parents from Shahala Principal Gregg Brown. Police took the student into custody at 1:19 p.m., and the lockdown was lifted by 1:45 p.m.

“We understand that this is an upsetting situation for students,” Brown said in the statement. “Please let us know if your student needs extra support, and we can get them the help they need.”

No injuries were reported. A spokesperson for the district said counselors were on site Wednesday to speak with students disturbed by the incident.
