A horror film adapted from a hit video game series the DVD releases for the week of Dec. 12.

“Five Nights at Freddy’s”: A security guard gets more than he bargained for when he takes a job watching over an abandoned theme restaurant full of animatronic creatures.

“Maudlin, drab, tonally bizarre and thematically unintelligible, ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ feels like a stark, vaguely supernatural family drama shoehorned into a franchise-ready piece of intellectual property,” writes Adam Graham of The Detroit News in his review. “Only fans who come to hear the game’s catchphrases and callbacks will feel seen, anyone else is better off bellying up to the bar at their local Chuck E. Cheese.”

Also new on DVD

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem”: The beloved pizza-eating, sewer-dwelling reptiles get an edgy new treatment in this animated feature, following their journey to become New York City’s heroes in a half-shell.

“PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie”: A platoon of pups who protect the citizens of Adventure City face off with a mad scientist and a meteor in this feature-length outing.

“The Creator”: In the near future, the U.S. wages war against AI, but one man (John David Washington) shepherds a special child who has the power to merge the two worlds.

“Dumb Money”: Dramedy based on a true story in which everyday people took on Wall Street over trading of the mall video game retailer GameStop. Paul Dano, America Ferrera, Shailene Woodley and Nick Offerman star.

“Fremont”: A former translator for the U.S. government in her native Afghanistan finds herself adrift in California, where her job at a fortune cookie factory becomes an unexpected outlet of expression.
