CASTLE ROCK — Seaquest State Park, located in east Castle Rock along Spirit Lake Memorial Highway, is closed indefinitely while maintenance crews repair water and power infrastructure.

The park, which is normally open year round to campers and hikers, is expected to remain closed through at least early spring, according to Washington State Parks communications consultant Meryl Lassen. The Washington State Parks website says the park could reopen by mid-February, after being closed in mid-October.

Though the maintenance will most directly affect the camping area, trails will also be closed for the duration of the work for safety.

“There will be workers and heavy equipment out in the park, including staging from the parking lots,” Lassen said in an email. “For the safety of the workers, staff and public and for the mobility of workers and equipment, the whole park needed to close.”

The park experienced power outages prior to the closure, according to Lassen. The power outages were determined to stem from power supply, so crews will have to work on underground water and electric lines. Lassen added that the park could be shut longer than early spring, depending on how much progress maintenance crews make through winter weather.

The park has contacted reservation holders and issued refunds to people with reservations through the expected maintenance period. The park’s reopening will be available on the state parks website at parks.wa.gov/find-parks when a date is set.
