Winterhawks get win at Spokane in OT

Stefan’s second goal of game is winner

James Stefan scored his second goal of the night 1:26 into overtime to give the Portland Winterhawks a 6-5 win over the Spokane Chiefs in Western Hockey League action on Friday at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.

The victory came after the Chiefs rallied from 3-1 down in the second period to take a 4-3 lead over the Winterhawks (20-9-1-1) midway through the third period.

Portland’s Jack O’Brien scored the equalizer on a power play with 2:54 to play only to have Spokane take the lead again 24 seconds later at 5-4.

Josh Davies’ 22nd goal of the season tied the game with about a minute and a half to play in regulation.

Stefan’s winner with 3:34 to play in OT was the third shot on net with an assist to Tyson Jugnauth, his second of the game.

Gabe Klassen and Luca Cagnoni also had two assists in the game.

Also for Portland, Marcus Nguyen had a goal and assist and Diego Buttazzoni scored a goal.
